As we all know, SOCIAL MEDIA tells a story of you, for you.

So today, TENANI shares his top tips on making SOCIAL MEDIA work for you.

Head on over to TENANI’s YOUTUBE for other tips and fun, like THE FOUR DAILY STRUGGLES.

 1. BE YOURSELF. People can spot a fake a mile away. The most important tip for enjoying success online is to be yourself. There are millions of people on the internet and I guarantee you there is someone out there who likes all the same stuff as you. Be yourself, talk about your favourite things, and you’ll find similar people.

2. BE NICE. If you wouldn’t say it to their face, don’t say it to them online. If you wouldn’t be comfortable saying it in front of your mum, don’t say it online. If you wouldn’t want it on a billboard on Queen Street, don’t say it online. It’s basic manners, be nice to people and they’ll be nice back. Share the love!

3. IGNORE THE HATERS. It should come as no surprise that sometimes people can be mean. Haters are people who ignore tip number two of this list. The worst thing you can do for your personal brand is to sink to the level of a hater. The timeless phrase “if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all” was almost made for the social media generation. People will try to bait you into confrontation, don’t bite. You have better things to do with your time than argue with someone on the internet.

As a species we have the gift of conscious thought. Sure, we can think of reasons why we should and shouldn’t do something. We can think about how embarrassing it might be if people don’t get a joke we’ve made or a link we posted. But sometimes we have to think less. Stop thinking of excuses for why you can’t do something and embrace the thrill of sharing an idea, talking to someone new, or chatting with a friend.

Write about the things you love. People often get too wrapped up in how many likes a post got on Facebook, or whether their funny Tweet got favourited. It doesn’t matter, as I’ve said before, the key to social media is staying genuine. If you’re talking about what you love, in your words, and people can tell, you’re on the write track. Don’t let likes dictate what you talk about
